Kraft paper is my new favorite thing. It keeps showing up everywhere or maybe I am just noticing it more. I bought a lifetime-supply roll of it and have it at school...just seeing it everyday makes me happy (in the same way that my lifetime-supply spools of baker's twine do).
I thought for sure my students would love to make old-school book covers. They just weren't that into it in spite of (or because of?) my own covered books.
When August turned to September, I even used the page of my big calendar from Paper Source to cover another book. Those kids don't know what they are missing with their new, stretchy book covers.
This is a timely post for me as I was recently schooled about book socks. Never heard of them (no kids in my house) but I do remember making book covers from brown paper bags back in the paleozoic era... :-)
PS I bought an entire roll/lifetime supply of deep brown kraft-type paper in the painting section of Home Depot. I love it!

Of course we used the old paper bags back in the day...and in fact my kids did until recently too! My youngest is a senior this year! Love twine too!

You and Amy have me thinking about the merits of lifetime supplies of kraft paper ... it seems like a wise investment!

I used the old news papers, old paper bags & brown paper bags for book covers. This is a fun to making book covers. I'm just re-living those moments again.

Amy, I am attempting to comment on your blog but can't (it's me not you I'm sure). Anyway, I've pinned your chalkboards and finally made it to your original post and wanted to say...
I'm with you on the words thing...I'm not the least bit clever about it and would love to just get away with pointing at stuff (this is why I could never journal). But who needs words when you can draw! Love every one of your designs and am going to give it a try.
