Ellen has her own sewing machine now. She also has a new pattern with the note "Ellen's doll aprons" on the front of the envelope. She picked out the apron she wanted to sew and the fabrics she wanted to use...cut the pattern pieces, pinned them to the fabric, and cut the pieces. I had to help with the tiny pressing and getting some pieces started. She must have said "I know what to do" at least a hundred times.
Her next project was a mattress and sheet for her doll. I stayed away while she sewed. When I asked her later how she knew to sew the wrong sides of the fabric together to make her mattress, she again said "I know what to do".
Simplicity 2761 is the pattern...in case you too have a young sewist that knows what she's doing.
Well done Ellen. I am happy for her that she is already catching the sewing bug; I have great memories of my Singer Junior Miss sewing machine and then being old enough to work on my Mum's machine and make myself a garment. My sixteen year old is starting to want to sew or alter thrifted clothes but her lack of experience makes her hesitate. I like the sound of Ellen's confidence.

Awww! That kinda makes me want to cry. She knows what to do. She probably has watched you for a long time just waiting for the chance to make her own. Ellen, your apron is lovely. I really like the fabric and the stitching is looking good. Keep up the good work!

That's fantastic that she wants to learn to sew. I wasn't as smart as you and didn't teach my kids to sew but I'm making up for it by teaching the granddaughter. We started with "old school beanbags" and she made a apron from a reprinted panel. I think your idea of letting letting you daughter choose from the pattern catalog is an excellent on, thanks for sharing that and for posting about the pattern you used.

How cute & what a great job she did! I can only hope my daughter wants to have the same interest as me, like sewing.
