Um, yeah...it's my mantel again. Dressed up for Christmas this time. But it's the wreath I wanted to talk about...
I wanted to try one of those cool yarn-wrapped wreaths. For me, the yarn had to be way thicker to bring the effort to a sane level. I had an almost full skein of thick yarn and a ginormous crochet hook. I chain stitched the whole thing and wrapped it around a foam wreath. I LOVE this wreath...it's so simple and so cozy. If you have the supplies around the house (and don't we all?), give it a try...right now...you'll be done before you know it.
There are still a few weeks to go but I'm going to go out on a limb and proclaim my newly-thrifted crocheted blanket the score of the year. It's the same pattern as the scarf I made and is in perfect condition...and the prettiest color. And it fits so well in my granny chic living room with my thrifted pillows.
I love your wreath, too! I don't know how to crochet, but am dying to learn. I'm asking for some supplies for Christmas.

That's a good idea, I intend on making a couple of wreaths too, a yarn one and a fabric strip one. Maybe I'll give the crochet version a try for my "granny chic" house. I always found the chain stitch my favorite part of crocheting, nice and fast, LOL.

I love your wreath! I, too, have been wanting to make one; I think your idea of crocheting a chain of bulky yarn is just perfect. Gotta get to work!
And your thrifted blanket is just wonderful, too.

Oooo, very pretty wreath! Good call on the bulky yarn - I made one with worsted weight, and it took *a lot* of wrapping.
The afghan is lovely!

Love the wreath! Being an accomplished crocheter I'm always over run with yarn. I have some that I was about to be given away but after seeing your wreath and hearing you technique I am rethinking that. I like the idea of chain-stitching the length of the skein and then wrapping it, much easier than trying to wrap just the yarn around the wreath.
Like the pretty pink Christmas apron, reminds me of a pair of Christmas stockings I did back in the 80's. So wish I had kept those stockings.

How did you find an afghan made from that same pattern? I've made two scarves already from that pattern and I love it, all thanks to your post! xo,suzy

Are you saying that to make the wreath, do the chain stitch, one long chain, and then wrap the chain around the foam wreath? I haven't crocheted in so many years but I would be willing to buy hooks and yarn and start with this wreath.

Exactly...I just did one long chain stitch of the whole skein and wrapped it around the wreath. If youve ever crocheted before, the chain stitch will come back to you instantly!
