mary engelbreit's home companion's biggest fan
If there was a contest to find Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion's biggest fan, I might be declared the winner. My Mom has given me a subscription to the magazine since the first issue....and I still have them all. I have a freakishly good photographic memory of my favorite pages. When Mary's current home was featured a few years ago, I recalled instantly that the house and previous owners were in a holiday issue (December-January 98-99 if you want to check!)...scary.
I dug out my premier issue the other day because I knew it was where the idea for this chair came from. I can't take credit for the painting...my Mom painted it and gave it to me as a gift. If Home Companion is celebrating its 10th anniversary, then this chair is about 10 years old. It has been pulled around and used as a stool by three kids and is showing a little wear and tear...but I still love it and it has found a permanent home in our yellow-n-black bathroom.
While visiting the magazine again, I was treated to a big helping of creativity and styling from charlotte...beautiful.
I know there are lots of Home Companion fans out there...was there a home, project, or artist in particular that inspired you to try something new?

that was a nice surprise to read! thanks for your kind words...I love your darling chair and am so thrilled that you and your mom were inspired there. Nicki's stew recipe was from that first issue...still have it out all the time over here. isn't it great that the magazine has been touching so many for so long? thanks again...for the inspiration of YOU! xoC

I'm a huge fan too but haven't kept my magazines. I don't keep a lot of whole magazines preferring to cut them up for inspiration most times.

I used to have every single issue..treasured beyond belief...so much inspiration!! We had a house fire and they were destroyed..so now i have the last couple of years and I pick up older issues at yard Sales once in awhile-no one seems to want to part with them. I completely understand!
Love your chair by the way- i have four fabulous old chairs my Grandma gave me that I want to art up someday.

I also have kept all my ME magazines. About 5 years ago, ME had a project for snowmen for your mantle. I got brave and made snowmen couples (think Fred and Ginger) for my shutters. I had never used a jigsaw or painted anything besides walls. Every winter I look forward to putting them up. Love your blog. I found it via Charlotte via Pozy gets cozy. What a great world, eh? Cheers, Jeannie

I've been an ME fan for several years now, and it is one of the few magazines that I cannot bring myself to cut up for my inspiration binder! I have no problem ripping out pages of other magazines, but I treasure each issue and have them all lined up on my bookshelf.
