christmas crafts

Img_0417_edited We were always making stuff at my house when I was little...and never more than at Christmas.  I know we always made ornaments for my aunts...paint, sequins, stitches...everything.  My younger sister Susie and I made this advent calendar.   I'm pretty sure it was from a kit and I'm also sure our Mom helped us with the stitching.   My biggest memory was arguing about which ornament should be the last...Santa or the star for the top of the tree.

pure holidays

Img_0359_edited It's officially the holiday season...my kids can now start drinking eggnog...and I will start pulling out some favorite Christmas decorations.  I always find something I didn't remember I had and also get to finally get out some of the thrift store finds I've collected over the year.   Until I get that started, here are a few more holiday cards to share.  I made a vintage sewing pattern card from a girl dressed in red and green...love it.

happy thanksgiving

Img_0366_edited Just a little thanksgiving thrift score stuff...the green milk glass turkey is from Martha Stewart but it fit the mood.  Happy Thanksgiving!

silver tree

Img_0363_edited Here's a picture of my table from yesterday.  The silver tree is from the Target dollar spot...really pretty cute.  I had a couple of sewing pattern cards in holiday papers so those are held in a big clothes pin.   My business cards are in the little eggnog punch cup...all atop a vintage table cloth.

Holiday Cards

There is a holiday shopping fair at my kid's school this weekend and I have a table.  While I will still have lots of individual cards, I decided to make small sets of boxed holiday cards this year also....I think the sets will make it easier for everyone to "shop" at my table.   Part of the fun of having a table is "decorating" it...I'll take some pictures and share them here.

Img_0360_edited Here are a couple of designs that I like.  They both have a vintage look but in different ways.  The first one is a sweet holiday paper from DaisyD's.  I stamped the sentiment in black ink on a pale yellow patterned paper from foof-a-la.  The sentiment reads "The holly's up, the house is all bright, the tree is ready, the candles alight, rejoice and be glad, all children tonight.  p. cornelius".    The second one is a stamped Christmas tree image...very simple but I love the red and vanilla colors together.  I added a little spot of glitter to the candles on the tree.

it's my birthday

Patchworksetfront Today is my birthday and, other than making an appointment to finally get bi-focal contacts,  I am treating myself to the absolute cutest post cards I have seen in a long time.  The cards are from Wee Wonderfuls and depict  little dolls going about their lives...the one with her paint set is my favorite.

I love making cards but sometimes I really don't like sending them myself...the recipient already knows I make cards and so it doesn't seem very thoughtul...does that make sense?   So...now I have these and will definitely send one to my sister for her birthday next week.

sweet invitation

Img_0337_edited I found the idea for this vintage-look invitation in the Spring 2006 issue of Martha Stewart Kids Magazine (...which turned out to be the last issue of my favorite magazine).  The magazine featured a memory box for a baby which included a sweet little invitation for a first birthday party.  I have had a great set of vintage cards that I bought at an estate sale a long time ago.  I used the image from the inside of one of the baby cards to top the invitation.  The text is in a dark chocolate color...the card is layered on my favorite robin's egg blue (it even has speckles) card stock...and the flowers are given a little bit of glitter.   The invites are really sweet and I think they are perfect for a little one's party or baby shower...boy or girl.

tiny martinis

Img_0329_edited I've used my martini stamp a lot...would you believe that I have done two bridal shower invites with martini themes?  Now that's a bridal shower I'd like to be invited to :-)

The martini on the left is cut from an Anna Griffin paper and glittered a little on the glass.  The other cocktail is stamped directly on a hip paper from Gin-X and the olive is a matching eyelet.  Stamped image is from Savvy Stamps.

handmade arcade

Handmadearcade  Earlier this year, I found a very cute on-line shop that was looking for new artists.  I decided to submit my work and give it a try...the shop is Blossom Boutique.  Not only does the very energetic owner run her shop, she travels to craft events.  One of those is the Handmade Arcade in Pittsburgh on Nov. 11.  All of the vintage sewing pattern notes in my flickr photo album are traveling along...hope they all find good homes!

holiday cards in red & white

Img_0313_editedI am trying to get motivated to make holiday cards for a few upcoming events.  So...I pulled out a few cards from last year.  The red snowman is a stamped image...it's a little unusual for a snowman but I think I got the idea from a card displayed in a Pottery Barn Catalog.   I used one of my favorite holiday papers (Anna Griffin)  on the middle one. The last card was made using a vintage -look wintertime stamp...that's a staple on top...and a little bit of glitter on her skate marks.    All stamped images are from stampin' up.
